4th - 9th February 2013

Hi

Last week we still had many groups here, some going and coming as they visited other projects in the diocese. One group here is from Western North Carolina - a link diocese with here.

Shawnee, is the India co-ordinator of  the Order of the Daughters of the King and so last Tuesday there was a meeting of the two chapters here, Durgapur - chapter of faith and Bankura, chapter of hope. The have an immense servant ministry in both areas with all parts of society.
These are the ladies from Bankura, the chapter of hope, with Susannah a guest at the meeting , as I was and Rita Dutta, far left, who is President of the Durgapur Chapter of Faith. After watching an interesting DVD on how the Daughters of the King are growing around the world. Then they did a small amount of business and shared gifts and then it turned into a time of learning new knitting  patterns and stitches for the prayer shawl ministry they do, and Shawnee had supplied them with lots more yarn.

ON Wednesday this group ran an activity morning for the hostel children with a wide variety of things to do.
There was basket ball - learning the correct rules:
as well as football - but they called it soccer!
Norma is interim chaplain to some the Cherokees at the moment so she did some crafts about North American Indians
There were also making friendship bracelets, nail painting, and colouring and reading the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar - I like that book too.
They all had a great morning.

Many of the children here are also sponsored by churches or individuals of the groups here, so have enjoyed meeting their Godparents, as they are called and receiving gifts, so are also sad to see them go. It is very quiet here now.

Saturday morning I went out shopping with them, taking Mrs Dey and Mrs Gobiraj with us and they were able to barter down some of the prices. We went shopping at Benachity, which is near the United Church where I have been to.
A very busy little street with lots of fascinating little shops. Normally we are taken to Big Bazaar  or Spencers or a little supermarket with set prices so it was good to be elsewhere.
