This week

Hi this week is beginning to be busy. Yesterday was a Hindu festival so some of the children did not go to school as their schools had a days holiday. So the youngsters were busy wrapping prizes for sports day coming up on 23rd January,
15 new day children started at the afternoon session. They have started government school and the centre reinforces all that they do their and makes sure that they understand to give them the best chance in life. Here if you do not pass your exams then you do not go up a class. So there is a range of ages in classes depending when they started their education and well they are doing. The aim is here to help them all get through first time. There are now over 80 children attending here everyday with the two sessions that they run and the hostel students.

There are now 30 children living in the hostel, we had a new girl yesterday, Priyanka's sister.
The violins are doing well and here is the picture of them practising outside on Sunday.
The Bishop was in listening again this morning, and asked if they would also play at the Thanksgiving service on 3rd February during the offertory. That will take a few minutes as they are expecting a congregation of four to five thousand.  So I am now arranging a little more music for them to play but they  are willing to work and are up for the challenge and I am sure they will perform well. They are also very good at helping the couple of younger ones in group if they haven't understood all I have said in English. The ages in this group are 11 - 16.

As I travelled to the Sports Day on Saturday, I saw the difference in the areas. Here there are slums along the road sides as well as big houses but as I moved into the area of the Durgapur Steel Works they have their own township. There is space and they have their own schools, hospitals, sports facilities for the workers and their families. It was a school in that area that was used as it had a sports field. They still have the wild dogs that just roam everywhere regardless but didn't appear to have as many cows roaming.Dogs roamed around during the sorts day but all the whole they don't get in the way. They do have a habit of knowing when the children have their evening snack about 5.45 and they usually sit along the wall of the play area so we do have to watch the dogs don't get too close and try and pinch the food.
